Purchasing Assistant job in Southampton

ICS Robotics & Automation Ltd is a UK market leader in the manufacture of bespoke robotic welding and handling systems with a well-established brand and reputation. In order to meet our strategic growth and development plans we are looking to appoint an additional Purchasing/Buying Assistant.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

This is a busy and challenging position that requires a confident and enthusiastic team player to facilitate purchasing across multiple projects.  Working closely with Senior Management and the Engineering Design Teams your responsibilities will include:

  • Importing of BOMs and management of BOM Updates and Engineering Change Requests to ensure that purchasing is in-line with latest project revisions
  • Identification and reconciliation of procurement requirements for projects from BOMs
  • Preparation of requests for quotation (RFQs)
  • Review of quotations and issue of purchase orders along with engineering drawings and product specifications
  • Purchasing of mechanical (both bought-in and out-sourced), electrical and pneumatic  components along with business consumables, services and utilities
  • Progressing of purchase orders to ensure purchasing schedules meet project requirements
  • Responsibility for goods-in and kitting up Project Bins
  • Product returns, quality issues and stock control
  • Providing general admin support to the Engineering and Finance Teams

The Successful Applicant

You will be a key player in ensuring that project schedules are met, and therefore we are looking for somebody with can-do attitude who is calm under pressure with a clear understanding of the timescale pressures that are frequently placed on Engineering Projects Teams. You will have previous experience in a Purchasing or Projects Admin role, ideally in an engineering or technical manufacturing business or a project driven environment and will be educated to at least A Level. You will also need to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail are absolutely essential
  • Proven organisational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritise own workload to meet business needs
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to question and ‘think out of the box’
  • An excellent working knowledge of MS Office along with previous experience of MRP/ERP systems. Previous experience of Factory Master would be a distinct advantage.
