Job Description

This is a challenging career opportunity for a practical, hands on Mechanical Engineer with a background as a Precision Toolmaker to join our Robot System Build Team. Within this varied role there will be an opportunity to gain additional skills in the field of Robotic Engineering. This position is based near Southampton, Hampshire with some visits to customer sites throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer you will play an integral part of the system build team responsible for:
Precision assembly of Robot Fixturing
Set-up and alignment of Welding Jigs and Fixtures to achieve dimensional tolerances and product capability
Mechanical assembly of Robot Systems from engineering drawings
Mechanical machine modifications
On-site installations and commissioning
Trouble shooting and fault finding on automated equipment
Maintenance and development of company expertise in mechanical engineering techniques
Provision of mentoring and guidance to junior team members
An opportunity to learn robot programming

Required Skills and Experience

As a Mechanical Engineer it is essential that you have a solid engineering experience gained in an industrial machine build environment. You must have proven experience as a Precision Toolmaker including bench fitting and close tolerance assembly skills. Ideally you will have experience of assembly and set-up of welding jigs and fixtures. You must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, customer product drawings and geometric tolerancing. You will have the ability to operate conventional machine tools including lathes, milling machines, band saws, grinders and hand tools as appropriate.

Qualifications for this Mechanical Engineering role will include a minimum of five GCSE's grades A - C (or equivalent) along with BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications in mechanical engineering. You should also have completed a time served mechanical apprenticeship preferably to an advanced level.
